MOVEMENT THROUGH MATERIAL AND SCALE

“You only see thing when you move” – Olarfur Eliasson, 2020

In a dark concrete tunnel entrance, there are small holes that allow air and sunlight to reflect into the path and direct people way when walking. When people walk pass the light, they might look up and then straight before start walking again. This suggest the way people bow through the tunnel.

How to enjoy view in privacy?

Transparent glasses allow light to shine through and brightened the concrete tunnel. It also allows people to enjoy nature view while walking. The light and shadow of tree has created the layer of appearance/site line/script in the path.

Using lighter to light up the plastic bottle to create uneven natural shape. The uneven path allows people to careful and slow down their movement while walking. It also limits people movement in the path as it is uneven and making the path small.

I want to create a spongy experience for people where they can walk freely without hurting if they fall. The sponge is soft so if they move too fast they will fall. It makes people to aware while walking on it.

Using wire aluminum to make an uneven path that blend in with the surrounding nature view. It like a maze that allows people to find a way of moving through while walking. This prevented people from wandering the space, stop and taking pictures which block people ways.

How do people know it is an entry way?

I am interested in using the color to attract people to the place. As this color installation will reflect the color onto the floor during the day when there’s sunlight for people to follow and move to the entry way.

How do people know it is an entry way?

Birds installation will attract people attention to the entry way. It is a rule that design and set up to attract people coming to the entrance and without telling it is an entry way. It is also design to response to the site background, as the site is a place to release bird for good luck.

Using color as away to suggest the way. While walking on the color floor, people can interact with one another by playing or stepping onto the same color they walked.

Displaying the woodmatt on the floor for people to walk on it. This prevent people from slipping and aware of their own gesture while walking as it a small hole in between.

"It is custom to bow once before passing through the gate"-Torri gate

Walking from the main big entry foyer to the small will allow people to change their movements such as moving freely in big space to limit movement in small space, starting to bow from each foyer to another as it is smaller and shorter.

I tried to make the design in different form like zic zac entrance. This will help people to aware of their gesture while moving as each foyer has different size and form.

Materials like mirror will reflect ourselves when walking through the entry. It also provide interaction between one another.

165.JPG

The site is full of grasses and trees. So I want to blend the entry way with surrounding materials. I used bamboo to make the entry. The entry design to have a stop point where people can leave at the turning point and view the nature or surrounding view from a hill.

166.JPG

This allows people walking freely on the site and interact with one another through mirror.

This staircase provide interaction with one another through mirror.

The stair is in different size and angle where people have to change their movement while following the design.

This is a type of stone that has a smooth surface but it does not slip. If there’s a case that people slip , it would not hurt. As the surrounding is cover with sand. This provoke people to play with their own gesture and walk on the stone.

Making the door in smaller size, so people have to bow and kneel down when moving into the space.

135.jpg
  • A air flow through the top of the door. People would bow when something blow on the them and this will also be alert to their movement.

  • A curtian through the door. People would used their hand to move the curtian aside and bow when enter.

A door that split into 2 part.
In normal day, people can just bow while enter the space through half door.
In some case, if they need to clean or renovate the space they can open the whole door.
