WAT PHNOM

EXISTING SITE FROM MAP


Wat Phnom is the tallest pagoda in Phnom Penh and one of the tourist destination. Wat Phnom is 27m high. It is the only hill in the town or capital city of Cambodia, Phnom Penh. It locates in the center of the city.

EXISTING FLOOR PLAN

Currently, there is only one staircase that allow people to go up and down from the hill.

ENCOUNTERING MOVEMENTS

Tracing the movement between tourist and local and identify the different behavior that should be prompted for positive exchanges such as taking picture, blocking people way, wearing hat through design manual.

ACTIVATION AND AWARENESS

Using a masking tape to test the awareness of people activate the space. Some people cross over the tape, some walked pass without realizing what's in there and some stepping on the tape. This suggest that we could not stopping behaviors of people but the design can prompt a positive exchanges.

INTERVENTIONS IN EXISTING STAIRCASE

Using the masking tape to separate ways people move up and down from the space. The top of the staircase is create for blocking the sunlight and the view of the site and prevent people from wearing sunglasses and taking pictures.

Using colors to direct people way of moving up and down.

Creating another small handrail to block and separate ways and this prevent people from moving freely on the staircase.
