Abstract

Research Question: How can we create an awareness of our movements through scale and material to prompt a connection between people in shared sites?

This research project explores ideas of performance and movement as ways to produce shared experiences and heighten sociability in public space. The aim is to create a mental manual that guide people way to move through the space and know exactly how to perform once they enter. Shared spaces are often open in their program. Some spaces allow people to express their loose behavior of movement and be themselves. The project in this research explore how design can guide people to perform and provoke more people to interact so that we can prompt positive changes.

The research explores ways to strengthen interaction between people and their domestic environment by altering object and their influence on bodily gestures. I have developed a series of interventions into domestic situation to explore the shift in interaction that can occur when I limit bodily movement and everyday activities and behaviors. The aim is to question how this can affect living environments. By understanding the way people moved, the experiment through interventions and see how it start to change our movement through the space. This can increase in encouragement of more people to perform. When ones seeing another person move in the space, ones tend to follow. This research framework will focus on designing a mental manual that guide people to move through the space and prompting positive changes.
